Learn CPR
Adult CPR – puberty and up
Check to see if they need CPR
- Look around and make sure the scene is safe before you help someone
- Tap their shoulders and shout “ARE YOU OK, ARE YOU OK”
- If someone is around point at them and tell them to call 911 and get an AED if one is available
If no one is around call 911 and put the phone on speaker - Look at their chest for 5 to 10 seconds for normal breathing.
If they are unresponsive, and not breathing or not breathing normal begin CPR - Place adult on a firm, flat surface
Place both hands interlocked on the breastbone between the nipples and press down at least 2 inches. Make sure you are looking straight over your hands with your elbows locked.
Compress at a speed of 100 to 120 BPM or to the song Staying Alive by the Bee Gees, and let the chest recoil between compressions to allow the heart to refill. If you are not giving breaths continue with nonstop compressions until help arrives to take over.
(BREATHS ARE OPTIONAL)
If you decide to give breaths, after 30 compressions, do a head tilt-chin lift pinching the nose and give 2 normal breaths until you observe chest rise, then back to 30 compressions and 2 breaths until help arrives to take over.
Child CPR – 1 year up to puberty
Obtain consent from a parent or guardian
Check to see if they need CPR
- Look around and make sure the scene is safe before you help someone
- Tap their shoulders and shout “ARE YOU OK, ARE YOU OK”

Place the heal of one hand on the breastbone between the nipples, or the heal of two hands interlocked on the breastbone between the nipples, and press down at least 1/3 the depth of the chest about 2 inches. Make sure both you are looking straight over your hand/s with your elbows locked.
Compress at a speed of 100 to 120 BPM or to the song Staying Alive by the Bee Gees, and let the chest recoil between compressions to allow the heart to refill. If you are not giving breaths continue with nonstop compressions until help arrives to take over.

- Tap the babies feet and shout “baby baby, baby baby”
- If someone is around point at them and tell them to call 911 and get an AED if one is available
If no one is around call 911 and put your phone on speaker - Look at their chest for 5 to 10 seconds for normal breathing.
If they are not breathing or not breathing normally begin CPR - Place infant on a firm, flat surface
Place two fingers just under the nipple line, and compress about 1 ½ inches at the speed of 100 to 120 BPM or to the song Staying Alive by the Bee Gees, and let the chest recoil between compressions to allow the heart to refill.

If you decide to give breaths, after 30 compressions, do a slight head tilt-chin lift and cover their nose and mouth with your mouth and give 2 normal breaths until you observe chest rise, then back to 30 compressions and 2 breaths until help arrives to take over.
