Child CPR Saves Lives – Young Survivor Stories

Having the ability and training to potentially save someone’s life, regardless if they are a child, infant or adult, is an important skill to have. People will be amazed at how many catastrophes can be prevented if someone around a victim knew how to perform the American Heart Association-approved hands-only CPR method. This is the reason why many people choose to get trained in Child CPR just in case a loved one or stranger suffers a cardiac arrest, they can provide emergency aid.

But in this article, we are talking in particular about CPR for infants and children. While the core of CPR training remains the same, there are slight differences in the technique used. Even though the need does not arise as often as with adults, it is only beneficial that people know how to properly perform CPR on kids and infants. Since kids and infants are more fragile, an emergency, such as drowning, will affect them more severely than it would an adult. But if a bystander or family member knows the proper technique, they would save the victim’s life from serious implications and even death.

Survivors’ Stories’

The following success stories all explain two different scenarios where someone with child/infant CPR was able to save an innocent life. Both of these stories attest to the fact that learning Child CPR only proves to be beneficial and can save someone from a morbid and serious situation.

2-Year-Old’s Mother Saves Daughter

Most of the people on this planet await joyous occasions to get together with our family and friends to celebrate and share our happiness with each other. In the midst of all the excitement and anticipation for the celebration, it never crosses our mind that in one instance a moment of joy can be stolen.

This was the situation for Amy Steelman’s family as they gathered to celebrate Amy’s grandmother’s birthday. While everyone was busy celebrating, Amy’s daughter Hannah and niece slipped out of sight and earshot. When Amy couldn’t find her toddler, she immediately thought of the pool and ran outside.

There, she saw Hannah and her cousin face-down in the water. But Amy performed emergency hands-only CPR on Hannah until she let out a breath. Meanwhile, Amy’s cousin did the same for her niece and saved her life as well.

The girls had to spend one night in the hospital, but the quick action saved them from suffering more serious consequences.

Father Saves 8-Month-Old’s Life

Just in the month of April 2018, a UK father was able to save his son’s life with CPR he learned a few months prior. Unlike Hannah’s case, the 8-month-old suffered an infection that caused him to stop breathing in the midst of a mundane day.

When the baby’s mother found her son not breathing at all, she tried to clear his passageway. But when the infant did not respond, her husband told her to call the ambulance as he immediately began to perform compressions on the baby. The father’s immediate action led to the baby starting to breathe again, saving the little one’s life.

The aftermath of both stories is the parents advocating and encouraging people to learn Child CPR and first aid skills for babies and children.
